A Day In The Life Of Ryan Metcalfe.

Hey Ryan, thank you for catching up with us today to talk about your role as one of Mabo’s Social Account Managers.

1. Hi Ryan, describe your role as a Social Account Manager.

My role as a Social Media Account Manager is to work with clients to create & develop their social media presence and to increase revenue from an advertisement on social media.

2. How are you finding lockdown? Have you taken part in any new hobbies?

I was due to get married in April 2020, however, due to the pandemic, we rearranged for December and then May and now September. I’m hoping my fiance doesn’t feel like the Universe is trying to tell her something.

I probably had too many hobbies to start with, I’m missing going to Crossfit Stokesley a lot as working out at home isn’t the same. I have always really loved quizzes so embraced the zoom versions thoroughly. In the warmer months, I got to play a lot of golf.

However, the thing I miss most of all is going to the boro matches, especially as we have got quite good recently.

3. What do you think the best thing about working at Mabo is?

Mabo has a fantastic reputation which I am very proud to be a part of. As a proud Teessider to be such an amazing company based in Middlesbrough means a lot to me. Since I have joined Mabo I can see where the reputation comes from, the full staff team all 50+ of them strive to provide the highest quality service to their clients and they care about the results.

4. What would you say is the most challenging element for you about your role?

Having clients from all different sectors poses a challenge as it’s impossible to be an expert in every field. To combat this I work closely with my clients and rely on their expertise at times to understand their industries.

5. If you could give one piece of advice for someone who is looking for a role in social ads what would it be?

Embrace your creative side social ads aren’t always straightforward so being able to demonstrate that you can be creative with your thought processes and work will stand you in good stead. Also, social media is always evolving and at times it can be tricky to keep up, I find the best way to achieve this is by being active on social platforms, that being said you don’t need to be a Tik Tok star to understand Tik Tok.

6. What was your first job?

I had a paper round when I was a teenager. The first house I delivered to was a mile from my house which was not ideal but I managed it. I suppose my first proper job was working as a labourer for a building contractor in my summer holidays as a student.

7. What is your favourite quote?

I do love a good quote and have a list saved in my notes on my phone, however, with the current global circumstance I recently took solace from this J.R.R. Tolkien passage from The Lord Of The Rings:

How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.

8. Name the top 3 things on your bucket list.

I love football so I would love to attend the world cup final.

I want to visit New Zealand

I think a ride in a hot air balloon would be a special experience.

9. What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

“You know what Ryan, you’ll be alright”

10. If you could see one band in person, who would they be?

I have seen some amazing bands over the years, potentially the pinnacle of which was when I saw Oasis when I was 15. I think to pick one I haven’t seen it would be Freddie Mercury with Queen. I can’t think of many better entertainers than that.

11. Name your favourite movie.

The Blues Brothers

12. What did you want to be when you were little?

A footballer, but most importantly for Middlesbrough Football Club, I had no interest in playing for any other club.

13. What do you like to do for fun?

I can’t believe I have got to the last question before mentioning my dog ‘Fergus the Pug’ you can check out his Instagram @fergpuglife he is so much fun. I also enjoy playing PlayStation, golf and going to Crossfit.

I like working for Mabo as it can be fun also.
